In CrossFit, there is a span of 5 weeks that starts in February and ends in March. This is a special time for the entire world of CrossFit. It is the season of the CrossFit Open. If this seems all new to you (hard to imagine that), watch the video below:

As mentioned in the video, The CrossFit Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season. Less than the top 1% qualify for the next stage, which is the ensuing Regionals competition - which means for many, the Open competition is what it's all about. The Open is a special time where people rise to the challenge and accomplish amazing feats that were once thought impossible. People often achieve their first pull-up, toes to bar, double under, and yes - even a muscle up! All because they made the decision to throw their hat in the ring and compete. Not against the world, but against themselves. The best part? There is a scaled division, so EVERYONE can participate! Can you prove you are better now than you were last month?

At CrossFit JAX, we took it a little further...

...This year, we are creating 3 teams to compete in an Intramural Open!

Team names, colors, the whole nine yards. Weekly, as each Open workout is announced and every single one of you physically do your very best in your performances, there will be a 'live' leaderboard posted inside the box to reflect the stats and scores from each team member and the team as a whole, so that one can see who is in the lead and who & what team needs to be taken down! It’s going to be so fun to watch you all brag, be humble, trash talk, support, compete, encourage, and more importantly - come together as one community!

The teams compete against one another within the gym, but it’s not exactly what you may think. It’s not just the top performers that score. Yes, points will be awarded for top performers in both the Rx and Scaled divisions, but we will also have a weekly "Spirit of the Week" winner, and even some little challenges along the way to keep you all engaged and entertained (many of which, are hazingly hilarious!). At the end of the 5 weeks, the winning team will get their name on a plaque that will be hung proudly inside the box, along with the person overall crowned “The Spirit of the Open”. This is a person that embodies what it means to embrace the Open, inspires and motivates those around their team, as well as our entire CFJAX community.

    Can you say PARTY?!?

We don't need an excuse to eat, drink and be merry ... but, you better believe at the end of the entire Open we will be throwing down and celebrating the previous 5 weeks by enjoying one another's company. Beer, food and music is on the HOUSE!

One catch (there is ALWAYS a catch) - you’ve got to sign up to play. Register here to sign up and be sure to join CrossFit JAX as your affiliate, AND choose CFJAX as your team. This is a two-step process and it's important you do both!

Your team captains will soon be recruiting YOU to be on their team this coming week. THE CHOICE IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU! You decide who's team to be on, but ALL THREE team captains will be actively pursuing you ... let the fun begin!

Stay tuned for a follow-up email to be sent out with who the team captains are, and all the details regarding the Intramural Open!

    February 21, 2015

    830am - 5pm

    CrossFit JAX

Spend two days with one of our expert coaches to maximize your skill and familiarity with rowing, an important component of many CrossFit workouts. The first day will be spent learning rowing technique, technical error analysis and correction, verbal cues, rowing physiology and kinesiology, how to structure a CrossFit rowing workout, maximizing rowing power and efficiency, increasing rowing power output for better WOD times/scores and more at this comprehensive workshop. The day will include lecture, rowing on the Concept2 indoor rowing machine, team teaching, and two CrossFit workouts. Knowing how to row correctly and teach rowing to your clients are invaluable skills within the CrossFit community.

The second day will enable participants to take their rowing skills outdoors and into actual on-water racing boats. Transferring the skills learned on the indoor rowing machine to an on-water rowing experience will enable participants to further refine their technique and power output capabilities. The day will include elimination races to determine gold, silver and bronze medalists.

    830am - 5pm

    CrossFit JAX

The CrossFit Movement and Mobility trainer course is a hands on, movement theory based workshop where coaches and athletes will be exposed to the principles of Kelly Starrett's Movement and Mobility Method of resolving pain, preventing injury, and optimizing athletic performance.

Performance is what drives the human animal, but the human animal can be brought to an abrupt halt by dysfunctional movement patters and underlying restrictions in mobility. Oftentimes, the factors that impede performance are invisible to not only the untrained eye, but also the majority of athletes and coaches. This course exposes attendees to a Starrett's systematic approach to make the invisible visible. This course illuminates common movement errors that can cause injury and rob you of speed, power, endurance, and strength. Whether you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply someone wanting to live healthy and free from restrictions, this course will teach you how to maintain your body and harness your genetic potential.

    Learn How To:

    • Prevent and rehabilitate common athletic injuries
    • Overhaul your movement habits and efficiently your body's most effective physiology
    • Quickly identify, diagnose, and fix inefficient movement patterns
    • Problem solve for pain and dysfunction
    • Fix poor mechanics that rob power, bleed force, and dump torque
    • Unlock reservoirs of athletic capacity you didn't know you had
    • Identify and fix poor movement patterns in children
    • Develop strategies that restore function to your joints and tissues
    • Develop effective individual and group mobility programming

The CrossFit Movement & Mobility Course is presented by one of the CrossFit Movement and Mobility Seminar Staff including Dr. Kelly Starrett; Jami Tikkanen, Osteopath; Dr. Roop Sihota; Dr. Theresa Larson, Dr. Travis Jewett, DC; or Dr. Danny Matta.

CrossFit JAX couldn't be any more prouder for our 4 teams that, literally, repped our box pretty damn well at this year's Rep Your Box competition.  In its 3rd year running, RYB has grown into THE team competition of all team competitions in the area.  Our RX division team finished 3rd place overall and and surpassed everyone's expectations.  Great job to Meghan, Dan, Brooke, Rafy, Katie & Chris!

Our 3 other teams are who really brought the noise and defined what this competition is all about!  RYB is designed for everyone to compete, most notably those individuals who believe that they aren't "athletes".  Well our 3 scaled teams showed exactly why they are athletes.  An athlete isn't just someone who plays a sport; it's also someone who believes deep down that they are more than what they are...and they proved just that.  Through each grueling workout and test, they each dug deep down within themselves to find that each repetition, set, round and event was what they believed it to obstacle to be overcome, and overcame it they did!  In the end, it's what our heart is made of and that burning desire to be tested and challenged is what makes all of us uniquely the exact same - regardless of experience and level.  WE ARE A TEAM.

Congratulations and badassery goes to Vicky, Sam, Bernice, Eric, Elias, Jon, Anna, Kelly, Steph, Graham, Ethan, Pavlos, Liza, Vanessa, Dawn, Tyler, Raymar and Patrick!

Check out these awesome pics from the weekend that Gus/Vee & Debbie took for all of us!

2014 Murph Challenge - Memorial Day @ CFJAX

This year's Murph Challenge (formerly known as Memorial Day Murph) was a huge success and turnout! Over 70 people showed up to honor and pay tribute to Medal Of Honor recepient, LT(SEAL) Michael Murphy. 42 individuals "rogered up" and performed the Murph workout...10 of them doing so with the 20lb. vest! Afterwards, we indulged in some healthy eating thanks to Sandy & Jeff for working the grill for us, and to Rafy for grabbing the catered foods. Even though the day was overcast, it didn't stop the kiddos (and Nikki) from jumping in the pool! We are grateful for the support and love you all continue to show CrossFit JAX. Here's to the next Murph Challenge in 2015...DON'T MISS IT!

For more pictures on the event, click here. Thank you to Vee Ashley and Debbie Beidelman for all the awesome photos!
